This Week’s Question:

Have you ever been to BEA? If not, what’s stopping you? If you have, what was your best experience there?
No, I havent’t. Before I saw this question  I didn’t even knew it existed. I had to go away and google it because I didn’t have a clue. Turns out BEA stands for BookExpo America, who’d have thought it? It sounds really cool, an event to discover what’s new and exciting in the book world!
So, I haven’t been. It sounds interesting and something I’d like to go to, but unfortunately 3,338 miles stand between me and New York City.
Have you been to BEA? Let me know all about it in the comments!

Inspired by Fiction | Feature and Follow Friday

This Week’s Question:

Have you ever been inspired by a book character to do something? Who was the character and what was it?
I thought long and hard about this question, and I suppose I have.
I had toyed with the idea of creating a blog for a couple of months, and then when I was on holiday I read The Manifesto On How To Be Interesting. I loved that book, so much (you can find my review here). Bree sets out on a quest to become interesting and started a blog to write all about it. It was then, while in sunny Cyprus, reading The Manifesto On How To Be Interesting, that I just knew that I had to do it. So I did, as soon as I got home I created a Blogger account and Alexandra Florence Books was born. It’s been six months and the blog’s still going strong, in fact it just keeps on developing.
So thank you Bree, I love my little piece of the internet that is Alexandra Florence Books, and I wouldn’t be where I am right now without you.

First off we’ve got my beautiful little kitty-cat.
Olive – 3 years old
And then there’s my little girl.
Cleo – 11 years old
And sadly we lost our baby boy just before Christmas.
Titus
They’re my furry friends, although really they’re all a lot more like family than friends! Have you got any furry friends? Let me know in the comments!

The Three Books I’d Save In A Fire | Feature and Follow Friday

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison Can Read. It’s all about increasing followers and making new friends! If you want to take part just answer the question and add your post to the link, follow the hosts and featured blogs, and hop from blog to blog!

This Week’s Question:

Your house is burning down and you have time to select three books you own to take with you. Which three books?

Room by Emma Donoghue

This book was a Birthday present from my Dad and a book I truly love. It’s definitely got mature themes in it, and I wouldn’t consider it a light read to pass time. This is a book that requires time and emotional involvement. I couldn’t recommend it enough, but be prepared for heartbreak.
Also, it’s a hardback, so you know, that’s just a hundred times better than any paperback ever.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This is probably my all time favourite romance novel, and I couldn’t live without it in my life. It’s the ultimate romance, a definite classic. It’s the kind of book that you can pick up at any time and still love it. Sure, it’s on my Kindle, but a physical copy of Pride and Prejudice just feels so right.
The It Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar

I’ve read this book too many times to count, it’s got a well earned place in my heart. The It Girl was probably the first YA book that I ever read, and I fell in love instantly. I suppose you could say it was my gateway novel into the unknown (and incredible) world of YA. I’ve never looked back.
Kindle

Okay, so this is a cheeky fourth. The question says books, but my Kindle is home to the majority of my books, so it only makes sense that I’d take my book storage with me. Plus it’s got The Winner’s Curse and Red Queen on, and I couldn’t part with them! If I had physical copies of those two books they’d definitely be on the list!
Also, my cat is quite fond of it and seems to sit on/with it a lot.

They’re the three books (and Kindle) that I’d save in a fire. Which books earned the right to be your chosen three? Let me know what you picked in the comments!

Do You Read More Than One Book At A Time? | Feature and Follow Friday

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison Can Read. It’s all about increasing followers and making new friends! If you want to take part just answer the question and your post to the link, follow the hosts and featured blogs, and hop from blog to blog!
Once upon a time I would have shuddered at the thought of this. Reading more than one book, are you crazy!
Now, times have changed, and I’m afraid I do.
Link right now for example, I’ve got two books on the go (three if you count Vanity Fair which I dip in and out of from time to time). I don’t always read more than one book at a time, it can get confusing following multiple characters and storylines. If I do I usually read more than half of one book, and then I’ll start the next, that way I’ve got a really good knowledge of the characters and the book as a whole.
I think it also depends on how I feel about a book on whether or not I’ll pick something else up and start reading that too.
